Step back into the 80’s! On Tuesday, 9th December, we celebrated Christmas in true retro style at the stunning Magic Garden. The evening transported us straight into the iconic vibe of Wham’s Last Christmas video, complete with festive cheer and dazzling décor.

Celebrating Excellence at the President’s Cup Negotiation Competition On Monday, 8th December, Nottinghamshire Law Society hosted the President’s Cup Negotiation Competition at Gateley Legal, showcasing the exceptional talent and professionalism of the next generation of legal advocates.

The Society’s annual luncheon for former presidents took place on the first Friday of December at the iconic Trent Bridge Cricket Club. This year, twenty-four past presidents gathered to share memories, reconnect, and hear updates on the Society from Immediate Past President, Lauren Castle.

Connecting Over Lunch – Mansfield Networking Event Each year, the Society hosts networking lunches at different venues across the county, bringing professionals together in a relaxed setting. This year, we were delighted to choose Andwhynot, in Mansfield as the stylish backdrop for our Mansfield Networking Lunch. The event began with a warm welcome from President Marie Dancer, setting the tone for an afternoon of conversation and collaboration.

On 18th November, we gathered at the vibrant Cuban-inspired venue, Revolución de Cuba, to celebrate the achievements of Nottinghamshire’s newly qualified solicitors and recent tenant barristers. This special occasion was generously sponsored by BCL Legal, one of the UK’s leading legal recruitment firms. Representing BCL Legal, Lauren Evans, Associate, joined us for the evening.

On Wednesday 21st October, we were delighted to host the Legal Futures: New Professionals Reception at the historic National Justice Museum, marking the beginning of the legal journey for junior professionals in Nottinghamshire. The event was graced by Nottinghamshire Law Society President, Marie Dancer, alongside the distinguished His Honour Judge Shant KC and Employment Tribunal Judge Ashley Frederick-Bowyers, who warmly welcomed attendees. The evening began with lively conversations and the forging of new connections within our legal community.

What a Night to Remember! 🎉 The big birthday bash was nothing short of spectacular — a night filled with laughter, music, and unforgettable memories. From the moment guests arrived, the energy was electric, and it only grew stronger as the evening unfolded. The atmosphere was buzzing with joy, and it was clear that everyone came ready to celebrate in style.

This esteemed advocacy contest stands out as a unique event in the UK and holds a significant place in the history of Nottinghamshire Law Society. For over 58 years, this competition has been a regular feature, providing a platform for four finalists to showcase their advocacy skills in either criminal or civil cases, all while being evaluated by esteemed Judges from the Nottingham judiciary circuit. Participating in this competition not only hones advocacy abilities but also offers valuable free training sessions courtesy of Nottingham Law School. It is an indispensable experience for aspiring junior lawyers.

Nottingham PRIDE 2025 – A Celebration of Unity and Inclusion On 26th July, we proudly came together to celebrate Nottingham PRIDE – a vibrant event that champions diversity, equality, and inclusivity across Nottinghamshire. This year’s turnout was fantastic, with a colourful and energetic parade that brought the city to life. The atmosphere was electric, and the sense of unity truly unforgettable.

On Wednesday 6th August, the annual Radford Cricket Cup brought together solicitors and barristers for a spirited showdown at Regatta Way, Nottingham. Team captains Aaron Singh (Solicitor) and Luc Chignell (Barrister) kicked things off with a handshake and coin toss. The barristers won and chose to bowl first, sending the solicitors in to bat.

On a sunny Thursday afternoon in July at Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Ground, the Nottinghamshire Law Society (NLS) cricket team returned to face the NHS Medics in a much-anticipated rematch. After last year’s defeat, the legal professionals were determined to turn the tables—and they did so in spectacular fashion!

On Wednesday, 18th June, the legal community of Nottinghamshire came together in a powerful show of support for access to justice, raising vital funds for the Nottingham Law Centre. The walk began at the Magistrates’ Court, led by an esteemed group including HHJ Coe KC, Nottinghamshire Law Society Vice President Drew Dennis, High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire Ed Attenborough, and Past President Deborah Hutchinson. They were joined by 160 enthusiastic walkers from member firms, along with dedicated stewards from NTU Law School and University of Nottingham School of Law.

Celebrating 150 Years: A Night to Remember at Cleaver & Wake On Friday 6th June, the Society proudly marked its 150th Anniversary Dinner with a spectacular evening at the elegant Cleaver & Wake. This milestone celebration brought together members, friends, and distinguished guests to honour our legacy and look ahead to a vibrant future.

On Tuesday, 13th May 2025, Nottinghamshire Law Society held its Annual General Meeting in the beautifully ornate Old Courtroom at the Dryden Centre, part of Nottingham Trent University. The event welcomed members, Council representatives, and guests for an evening of prize presentations and charity acknowledgements. The meeting was chaired by President Lauren Crow of MJC Law, who led the proceedings with warmth and professionalism.

On Wednesday, 30th April, Nottingham Law School hosted the annual Hammond Cup competition, filling the courtroom with anticipation as four talented finalists took the stage in an electrifying final. Presiding over the event this year were HHJ Coe KC, HHJ Coupland, and HHJ Owen. The Society deeply values the presence and support of the Hammond family, who continue to honor the legacy of their late father, Michael Hammond, by supporting the competition he founded in 1968.

On Friday 11th April, Nottinghamshire's legal professionals gathered at the East Midlands Conference Centre, to celebrate the legal success of the city and county. The gold carpet shimmered leading the guests to a night of carnival. On Friday, 11th April, the East Midlands Conference Centre hosted an unforgettable evening, where we welcomed over 400 guests to celebrate with awards and a festival of life. President Lauren Crow and Head of Operations Michelle Foster warmly greeted attendees, while TNT Steel Band performed light summer tunes to set the perfect mood.

On Thursday, 6th March, the legal profession gathered their brilliant minds for the annual John Pearce Quiz. This year, the 2024 winning team from Ropewalk Chambers brought a fresh twist to the event by incorporating creative and artistic flair into their rounds.

On Wednesday, 5th March, five very brave souls took a giant leap into the spring blue skies over Langar for charity. Led by Nottinghamshire Law Society's President, Lauren Crow, the team consisted of Simon Clare, Aldijana Hoad, Deputy Vice President, Drew Dennis, and charity ambassador, Debbi Marlow. They pledged to skydive for the charity Harmless and Tomorrow's Project.

On Wednesday 5th February, we hosted the first networking lunch for 2025 in Nottingham. Over the year a series of networking lunches are held across Nottinghamshire, to enable all our members to attend and meet the current President. President Lauren Crow, welcomed the members that had stepped out to join us at the trendy Binks Yard, where a feast of hot buffet was to be served.
