The 2026 John Pearce Quiz: A Night of Knowledge, Competition, and Community Spirit
On Tuesday 17th March, members of the local legal community gathered for the much‑anticipated annual John Pearce Quiz, this year hosted at a vibrant new venue: Over The Road. The space—instantly recognisable thanks to its striking mural of Brian Clough and XXX—provided the perfect atmosphere for an evening of lively competition and camaraderie.
New Venue, New Energy
The buzz was noticeable from the outset. Over The Road not only offered a fresh backdrop for the tradition but also impressed attendees with exceptional hospitality. A special thanks goes to Sam and his team, who kept spirits high with an incredible spread of pizza, loaded fries, and warm service throughout the night.
Quiz Masters in the Spotlight
This year’s Quiz Masters were none other than The Mountweazels from the University of Nottingham School of Law—the reigning champions from 2025. Bringing enthusiasm and sharp wit, they guided quiz‑goers through the evening’s challenges with style.
A Digital Leap Forward
2026 marked a new chapter for the John Pearce Quiz as participants swapped paper sheets for an interactive quiz app. The digital format injected a fresh sense of engagement into the event—speed, suspense, and friendly rivalry all dialled up a notch. Gasps, cheers, and groans rippled through the room as teams watched their rankings rise and fall on the live leaderboard. The new system was a clear hit, enhancing the pace and excitement of each round.
Eight Rounds, Countless Brain Teasers
Teams battled it out across eight rounds covering everything from modern living and music to history and geography. After an evening of fierce but friendly competition, it was time for the final reveal—the moment everyone had been waiting for.
And the Winners Are…
When the scores were tallied and the “electronic doors” swung open, Ropewalk Dynamo from Ropewalk Chambers emerged victorious, claiming the coveted title of 2026 champions.
The separate independent picture quiz saw success for the Jackson Quizzers from Jackson Quinn, who proudly took home the top spot in that category.
Celebrating Success and Supporting Charity
The Society President Marie Dancer closed the evening by presenting the trophy to the winning team and announcing the impressive fundraising total. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of all involved, the event raised £1,250.00 for this year’s chosen charity: Nottingham Women’s Centre, supporting their essential work in the community.
Looking Ahead
With such strong attendance, vibrant energy, and glowing feedback on the new venue and format, excitement is already building for next year’s quiz. We can’t wait to return to Over The Road—this time with Ropewalk Dynamo taking on the role of Quiz Masters for 2027.
Here’s to another year of trivia, teamwork, and togetherness!
Thank you to Jay Glenn for capturing the moments!
