Jay Singh Chair of the NJLD

Jay is the 2019 NJLD Chair. He has previously served on the committee for 2 years as Vice Chair and Academic Sectary. In Jay’s role as chair, he will ensure the NJLD continue to support young lawyers within the region as well as provide social and networking opportunities along with maintaining the relationship between the NJLD and the NLS. 

Originally from West Yorkshire, Jay attended University in Nottingham to read Law and the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School before making the permanent move to Nottingham in 2016. Jay is now a Trainee Solicitor at Fraser Brown Solicitors having worked at the firm for 2 years as a Residential Property Paralegal and a Real Estate Paralegal.

Tiran Sandhu Vice Chair

Tiran is a trainee solicitor qualifying in January at Fraser Brown Solicitors into commercial property. Tiran has served on the committee over the past 2 years as ball secretary then sports secretary and acted as interim treasurer alongside his role in sports. Tiran will now be serving as the Vice Chair as part of his continued commitment to the NJLD.

Emilie Hornby Treasurer

Emilie is a Paralegal at Elvin Moore Solicitors in Commercial Property and Residential Conveyancing.

This will be Emilie’s first year on the NJLD committee and will be taking on the role of Treasurer.

Alicia Yilmaz Student Representative

Alicia works at Fraser Brown as a paralegal in the commercial property department whilst reading the LLM LPC at Nottingham Law School. Alicia has previously completed her law degree at Nottingham Law School and is looking forward to working with other students.


Andrew Dennis Secretary

Drew is a Trainee Solicitor at Nelsons Solicitors and will be the NJLD Secretary for this year. This is Drew’s first year on the committee and is looking forward to meeting the members over the course of the next 12 months.

Abigail Stewart Membership Secretary
Abigail Stewart is an Associate at Eversheds Sutherland. She recently qualified into the Employment team and advises clients on a variety of employment law issues, handles employment tribunal litigation and is a member of the firm’s Immigration group providing corporate immigration advice to businesses managing an international workforce. Abigail is undertaking the role of Membership Secretary on the Nottinghamshire Junior Lawyer Division committee
Sumandeep Nahl Events Secretary

Suman is a Solicitor at Hopkins Solicitors. She recently qualified into Commercial Property in the Nottingham office.

This is Suman’s first year on the NJLD Committee and will be working with Jess to organise events throughout the year – if you have any suggestions please get in touch. She looks forward to meeting you all.

Jessica Silvers Events Secretary

Jessica is a trainee solicitor and she joined Hopkins Solicitors team in 2017 starting in Conveyancing and currently sits within their Litigation & Housing department.

Originally from Nuthall she decided to go into Law after completing Criminal work experience whilst at college in Nottingham. She went on to study Law with German at Sheffield Hallam University and graduated with a 2:1 in 2016. Whilst at university Jessica completed a work placement abroad in a law firm in the USA. She currently studies at BPP University in Birmingham, Part-Time on the Legal Practice Course and is also working towards completing her Masters in Law later in 2018.

Kim Wintle Ball Secretary

Kim is one of the Ball Secretaries. She will be working with Gavin to organise the biggest event in the NJLD calendar – The Winter Ball.  In previous years, Kim has been the NJLD Local Law Society Representative, and last year she was the NJLD Chair. Kim is looking forward to working with the committee again this year.

Kim is also a Solicitor at Cartwright King in the Care department. Originally from the south; she moved to Nottingham in 2011 when she started her Law degree at NTU and she hasn't left since.

Gavin Gill Ball Secretary
Gavin is a Paralegal in the commercial property department at Browne Jacobson  specialising in retail property management and supports on property acquisitions, disposals and lease renewals. Gavin is currently studying the LPC part-time at Nottingham Law School
Philip Pearson Marketing Secretary
Philip Pearson is a trainee solicitor at Cartwright King. Originally from Nottingham, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kent before going on to attend Nottingham Law School for the LPC. This is his 2nd year on the committee as Marketing
Louise Hunt Marketing Secretary

Louise Hunt is a first year trainee solicitor at Austin Moore & Partners LLP who specialise in corporate and commercial property transactions. In Louise’s role as marketing secretary, she will be liaising with national and local JLD members to promote upcoming events. This is her first year on the committee and she is very much looking forward to working with the committee, and attending networking events with the junior lawyers.

Louise has graduated from Nottingham Trent University where she studied for her Law degree and the Legal Practice Course. She is currently writing a dissertation for her Masters regarding the impact of employment status on workers’ rights in the gig economy to be completed in 2019.

Molly Shipman Sports Secretary

Molly Shipman is a first year Trainee Solicitor at Gateley Plc. She graduated with a Law degree from the University of Bristol in 2017 and completed her LPC at the University of Law in Leeds in 2017/18. During university, she completed a work placement in Beijing, China and has experience working in several departments including: international trade disputes, commercial, property, banking and employment. Molly now sits within the Employment team at Gateley Plc and hopes to complete seats in Property, Banking and Finance and Corporate.

Molly will be taking on the position of Sports Secretary of the NJLD and hopes to organise football, rounders and netball events in 2019. Throughout school and university, Molly has been involved in sporting events and is excited to organise the inter-firm sports activities. Molly supports Nottingham Forest football club and enjoys running, skiing and netball.

Reema Sharma Academic Secretary

Reema is a solicitor at Freeths. She recently qualified into the Commercial team and advises on a range of commercial and banking matters. This will be Reema’s first year on the NJLD committee and she will be undertaking the role of Academic secretary.

Ryan Steed National Law Society Representative

Ryan Steed is the National Law Representative for the National Junior Lawyers Division 2018. He is a NQ Solicitor at Shoosmiths in Nottingham.  He previously served on the NJLD committee as the Ball Secretary in 2016 and NJLD Chair in 2017!  He looks forward to meeting you all throughout the year and bringing your thoughts and opinions to the attention of Junior Lawyers Division in the future!

Laura Such NJLD Local Law Society Representative

Laura is a solicitor in the Family Law department at Cartwright King Solicitors. This will be her fourth year on the NJLD committee having been Marketing Secretary alongside Alexandra Emery for two years and now the Local Law Society Representative for a year. She is incredibly excited to be continuing in her role for the NJLD and to sit on both committees. She hopes to ensure that she is effective in liaising between the two committees and that we are working together for the benefit of the lawyers across our city.
