Nottinghamshire Law Society v NHS Medics Cricket 2025

🏏 Nottinghamshire Law Society vs NHS Medics – A Triumphant Turnaround!

On a sunny Thursday afternoon in July at Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Ground, the Nottinghamshire Law Society (NLS) cricket team returned to face the NHS Medics in a much-anticipated rematch. After last year’s defeat, the legal professionals were determined to turn the tables—and they did so in spectacular fashion!

NLS Takes the Bat First

Winning the toss, NLS chose to bat, with James Sookias and Martin Foulds opening against Kashif Chauhan’s bowling. Under clear skies, James dazzled early with a flurry of boundaries, retiring on 30 runs within just 15 minutes. Captain Aaron Singh joined Martin at the crease, continuing the momentum with his own barrage of 4s and 6s before also retiring on 30.

Martin kept the innings steady while Joshua Ganley stepped in and matched the trend—retiring at 30 runs. Ian Gill, playing his first cricket match, joined Martin, but was unfortunately dismissed as the game’s first wicket. George Neville replaced him, and Martin soon retired on a well-earned 30.

Matt Slade joined George but was caught out, bringing debutant Romesh Hakel to the crease. With Alistair Rose and Sam Jenkinson scoring, George hit a boundary in the 19th over, helping NLS close their innings at an impressive 177 runs from 20 overs.

Medics Step Up to Chase

As daylight faded, the Medics began their chase with Anand Kasbakar and Vidhura Mendis facing bowlers Sam Jenkinson and Alistair Rose. Matt Slade struck early, dismissing Anand. Romesh Hakel then bowled out Zubair Nasim, and the NLS fielding team kept the pressure high.

Medic captain Buddhike Mendis was stumped out after just 3 runs, followed by Kashif Chauhan who was dismissed after 15. Ian Gill and wicketkeeper James Sookias kept the energy up, while Patrick Davies managed only 2 runs before being bowled.

Newcomer Nirmel Trivedy made his debut for NLS, and Kassra Powles delivered a fiery spell—taking multiple wickets and dismantling the Medics’ middle order. Patrick Davis was out on the sixth wicket, leaving Habib Harder and Manoj Shenoy to try and stabilize the innings.

However, the Medics struggled to build momentum, with most players falling between 1–3 runs. Dominic Arvinathan was dismissed after just 1 run, and Arjona Mendes, the 11th player, was caught out by NLS captain Aaron Singh.

Retired batsman Vidhura Mendis returned to bat, but the chase was already out of reach. The Medics ended their innings at 103 runs from 20 overs, handing NLS a well-deserved victory!

Celebrations and Thanks

With the match concluded, both teams gathered for photographs, pizzas, and beers at the pavilion—celebrating not just the game, but the spirit of friendly competition.

A huge thank you goes to our umpires Paul Westbury and Neil Dudley for their excellent officiating, and to Brad, our dedicated groundsman, for preparing such a fantastic pitch.

Another great game in the books—and one we’re already looking forward to playing again next year!
