Nottinghamshire Law Society 'v' NHS Medics - Cricket July 2024

On the 4th of July, the Nottinghamshire Law Society's cricket team came together to face the NHS Medics in their inaugural match. The clash between medical professionals and legal experts, under the watchful eye of a police officer umpire, promised excitement but turned out to be a thrilling cricket match.

Team captains Aaron Singh of NLS and Malin Wijeyratna of NHS tossed the coin to start the match, with the medics choosing to field first. The NLS squad took the field at the Old Nottinghamians' ground at Adbolton Lane, looking sharp in their new gear sponsored by the Society and John Hooper & Co.

This season, the NLS team welcomed new members Ben Burton and Dan Butler, both from from Nelsons Solicitors. Dan Butler and Philip Cordery opened the batting for NLS, facing some impressive bowling from the medics that resulted in wickets and catches. By the end of 20 overs, NLS had scored 99 runs with 5 wickets down. Two players, Philip Cordery and George Neville, retired after scoring 25 runs each.

The medics' batting lineup, led by Javed and Malin, showcased their skills with powerful hits. Despite the dimming light, the game continued at a fast pace with Malin retiring after reaching 25 runs. The players rotated as wickets were taken and catches made.

As the summer evening progressed, the Medics emerged as the victors.

This marked the final game featuring NLS cricketer Grant Benskin of Rothera Bray LLP. Grant has been a staunch supporter of the NLS in various social and sporting events, even clinching victory in the Francis Reeson Squash Tournament on two occasions. As a token of appreciation, Grant was gifted a team shirt to don proudly during his cricket matches in Australia.

Following the game, the captains gathered to express gratitude to all participants and organisers, including umpires Richard and Paul for their contributions. The match took place at the Old Nottinghamians' Cricket Ground on Adbolton Lane, a picturesque setting for a summer cricket match. Special thanks to the ON Society for graciously allowing us the use of their grounds.

We express our appreciation for a pleasant evening of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Until next year's match!
