And just like that we are halfway through 2024!
After such a busy April and beginning of May, it’s nice to say that the last few weeks have been a little more chilled but, then when I look back, I think, has it?
On Thursday 16th May, the Private Client Committee hosted an exclusive networking evening at Pitcher & Piano. A different event, aimed at creating a social meeting for Private Client practitioners, who were personally invited to join us by sub-committee Chair, Bindiya Patel. The evening was kindly sponsored by RBC Brewin Dolphin and despite the raindrops, was a great success. We will be hosting further events like this in the future months, so keep a watch out on the events page and mailings.
I then had the great pleasure of visiting Actons Solicitors, and having a meeting with Director and Chief Operations Officer, Matt Coleman. We love the opportunity to come out and meet our members, to discuss what is happening at the Society, the importance of our sub-committees and how we are there for our members. It was also great to have a conversation with Director and Chief Executive, Chris Murratt. Chris is heavily involved with the Carlton Male Voice Choir, and you may recall we have been helping them with their membership enrolment. The choir are performing at the Albert Hall on Saturday 22nd June, and they have kindly given our members a discounted ticket price. Thursday 6th June, was an extremely busy day, starting in London at the Legal Geek Growth event at a funky venue on Brick Lane. A very informative day, meeting providers of case management software, AI technology and The Law Society. Excellent presentations including one by Sam McAlister, a former TV producer for BBC Newsnight’s programme and who secured the interview with Prince Andrew. Also at the event were Carlota Gonzalez-Laynez from NLS Legal and Alistair Rose with Matt Coleman from Actons Solicitors. It was also great to finally meet in person, Will Graves from The Law Society. Will has been involved in the Society’s work with the online workshops with all the local law societies of England and Wales.
I also met with Christina Blacklaws, former President of The Law Society. Christina was the first President I met some 7 years ago, when I took on the role at Nottinghamshire Law Society. It was a privilege to work on her Women in Law project, when we hosted round table discussions across the county to discuss women and their positions in law, unconscious bias, gender pay gap and flexible working practices.
From London, back to Nottingham to host the exclusive shopping evening at Paul Smith Designs.
We are very grateful for the support and offers Paul Smith shares with our members. That evening, our members were given the opportunity to purchase ahead of the sale and bag fantastic bargains with over 50% off!
So, what’s happening next…

On Thursday 25th July, we will be hosting the Newark Networking Lunch at Ann Et Vin. The Society holds three networking lunches throughout the year and the venues are across the county, beginning with Newark this summer then onto Mansfield in Autumn and finally in Nottingham in 2025. They are a great opportunity to meet your fellow legal colleagues, so if you are free, work or live in Newark, why not join us on National Cheese & Wine Day at Ann Et Vin?
Saturday 27th July sees the Society celebrate PRIDE in Nottingham. Browne Jacobson will be our starting point with breakfast buns, face painting and collecting the complimentary t-shirt, then onto the meeting point outside Weavers Wines on Castle Gate. We would like to thank Browne Jacobson, KCH Garden Square, Ropewalk Chambers, Gateley Legal and Eversheds Sutherland for sponsoring the event. There is still time to sign up for the march and order your complimentary t-shirt!
And then to Autumn, we have the Real Ale, Gin & Rum Festival in the diary for Friday 20th September, more information will be shared in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, we hope to see you at something soon, there is literally something for everyone!
