This is my first blog of 2025 and the festive break feels like a distant memory! Nonetheless, congratulations for making it through January, particularly if you were doing dry-January as I did this year.
It’s been a busy start to the year with lots more exciting things in the pipeline!
I think one of highlights of my year of President so far took place at East Midlands Conference centre, when Michelle and I were treated to a feast of the dining options for the annual dinner. Three mouth-watering options per course, just the two of us sitting there like royalty, and some very serious deliberations over which dish should make the final cut. We channeled our inner food critics and by the end, I don’t think we would have sounded out of place on MasterChef. You’re in for a treat, and with the preparations for the evening all starting to come together, I know it is going to be a great night! Please get in touch with Michelle for any final ticket sales.
I also had the pleasure of attending a fantastic networking lunch at Binks Yard in Nottingham. It was a great opportunity to catch up with both new and familiar faces, and it was brilliant to see so many there (a record number I am told!). Our NLS community really is a thriving and interesting bunch of people!

Now, for something completely different… On 5 March, along with fellow NLS Council members Aldi Hoad and Drew Dennis, I’ll be skydiving (yes, out of an actual plane!) to raise funds for my nominated charity this year, Harmless and the Tomorrow Project. These incredible organisations provide life-changing support for mental health and suicide prevention, and I’m really excited (and completely petrified) to be taking on this challenge to support their vital work. If you’d like to cheer me on (or just make sure I actually go through with it!), please consider sponsoring us.
Every donation makes a huge difference! The link is here:

For those who prefer mental challenges over adrenaline-fuelled ones, our annual John Pearce Quiz is happening on 6 March. Provided there’s been no disasters the day before (!), I’ll be there too for the day of the year that I feel most dim…
Joking aside, it’s always a fantastic evening filled with a little friendly rivalry and more great food. Whether you’re a trivia whiz or just in it for the laughs, I hope to see you there!
