It is with much sadness that we share the news that criminal barrister Jonathan Eley has passed away.
Jonathan was a well-respected and well-liked member of Chambers and the numbers at his eulogy at Leicester Crown Court in late August were testament to the affection to which Jonathan was held by the local legal community.
Head of Chambers at KCH Garden Square, Jeremy Janes, first met Jonathan in the early 1990’s and paid tribute in Court to him, remembering him as a “true gentleman”. Jonathan was described with fondness as quick witted and always polite and caring. Outside of work, he had a number of interests and was a talented fisherman and rugby player but above all he was a devoted family man.
Jonathan said he came to the Bar because he wished to make a difference to at least one person’s life. He did just that, for the many years during which he practiced.
He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his wife, family and friends.
