The Society has collaborated with The Bookcase at Lowdham to provide our members with access to the newest literary works. This partnership also offers the chance to participate in book club discussions that delve into the stories, authors' writing styles, and narrative techniques.
April showcases the book from Olivia Laing, The Garden Against Time. Olivia Laing began to restore a walled garden in Suffolk, an overgrown Eden of unusual plants, and the work drew her into an exhilarating investigation of paradise and its long association with gardens.
“I don’t think I’ve read a book that captures so well not only the deep pleasures and satisfactions of gardening, but its near-hypnotic effect on the human body and mind” – The Observer
“A vital read in the age of climate crisis” – Elle
“A broad-leafed prose-poem about ‘the constant cycle of decay, regeneration and return in which we all play a part’. This is a beguiling book.” – Country Life
