The Midlands Circuit has determined to launch a Social Mobility Programme to encourage and assist young people aged 14-18 years in the Midlands to consider a career in law.

The launch is being held at No 5 Chambers in Birmingham on the 16th December 2019 at 1730. Mrs Justice Carr DBE is our keynote speaker.

Dame Sue Carr was called to the Bar in 1987 (Inner Temple). She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2003. She became chairman of the Professional Negligence Bar Association, chairman of the Bar Standard Board’s Complaints Committee, Complaints Commissioner to the International Criminal Court in the Hague and head of chambers at Four New Square.

She was appointed to the High Court Bench (Queen’s Bench Division) in June 2013. She became a nominated Judge of the Commercial Court and the Technology and Construction Court in 2014. She is a presiding Judge of the Midland Circuit with effect from January 2016.

She currently sits on the Judicial College Board and on the editorial board of the Turkish Law Review. She is tri-lingual (English, French and German).

The event is being organised by a group of Barristers who have backgrounds of social deprivation who have succeeded in having a career as a Barrister. The aim is to encourage, inspire and assist young people aged 14-18 years within our region to consider a career at the Bar. We wish to illuminate the pathway as our profession welcomes everyone.

We do hope that the Judiciary, academics, the employed Bar and the Independent Bar will come along to show support for this cause. Tickets are being provided though Eventbrite and are free.
