SRA’s introduction of the Standards and Regulations due to come into effect in November this year, and will highlight key practical issues for consideration by Solicitors and Authorised entities.

The programme will include two sections of round-table discussions with the speakers, followed by Q&A sessions. 

Part 1 – Overview of the new Standards & Regulations

  • SRA Enforcement Strategy

Part 2 - Overview of the new Solicitors Accounts Rules

  • The new rules framework and focus on risk
  • Changes to the definition of client monies
  • Residual client balances and the “banking” rule
  • Accounting for interest
  • The importance of systems & controls
  • Dealing with other monies belonging to clients or third parties
  • Bank reconciliations and other important aspects of the new rules
  • Important omissions

Followed by a Q & A session.

The seminar will conclude with a light lunch, to allow further discussion and networking.

Presenters:

Victoria Prescott – Senior Vice President Marsh JLT Specialty 

Victoria specialises in risk and claim reduction in the FINPRO PI area at Marsh JLT Specialty, and delivers risk management advice and consultancy for UK and global law firm clients. 

By working with law firms and analysing claim data and legal processes, Victoria develops risk management content and workshops for practice groups focused on particular areas of work, or more generally across firms. 

Victoria joined Marsh in 2019 from Libra Managers where she was an Associate Director in the PI Risk and Claims Team. Prior to that role Victoria worked in private practice for six years dealing with professional indemnity claims and also in general practice at the Bar for seven years.

Victoria has an in-depth knowledge of Professional Indemnity for Solicitors.  Victoria is a Barrister and has a Master of Arts Law degree from Cambridge University.

Robert Blech – Director, MHA MacIntyre Hudson

Robert Blech is a qualified accountant who has a law degree and legal background. Robert acts for a number of solicitors and law firms preparing both their financial statements and Accountants Report as required by the SRA. Robert specialises in disciplinary and regulatory matters of law firms and has represented practices in a high profile SRA investigations. Robert is a an SRA Specialist Director at MHA Macintyre Hudson in London.
