Hello all

It’s been another busy month for the NJLD and with the recent weather we’re now starting to bring out some sporting events!

NJLD Football Tournament

Congratulations to Nelsons who beat off stiff competition to come first in our 5-a-Side football tournament earlier in April.

Thank you to all the other teams who competed in the competition. We hope you enjoyed yourselves

Hammond Cup

Congratulations to Sarah Murray from Fraser Brown who took 1st Place in this year’s Hammond Cup!

The first round took place on 21st March 2019 at Nottingham Law School, followed by the final on 11 April.

This year marks the 51st Anniversary of the advocacy competition. It was set up by Michael Hammond in 1968, who sadly passed away in 2017. The competition presents a great opportunity for junior lawyers to improve their advocacy skills in a courtroom setting in front of top professionals.

Those taking part in the first round this year were challenged to either present a plea in mitigation or an application for a summary judgement. Once again, this year the standard of those who participated was upped and the judges had a very difficult task of deciding who to put through the final round.

The final was a nail biting criminal trial with each competitor demonstrating a clear grasp of the key aspects of excellent advocacy.

Special mention must go to who did make it through alongside Sarah — Alexis Mercer (Bhatia Best), Frank Sheeran (Bhatia Best) and Callum Church (1 High Pavement).
Bygott Biggs Cheese and Wine Night
The ever popular Cheese and Wine Night returned, sponsored by our friends at Bygott Biggs! The night included a range of cheeses accompanied by red and white wines and as a great success.

We would like to express a big thanks to Bygott Biggs for putting on a very fun and relaxed networking event!

If your firm, chamber or company has placement students, Paralegals, Pupil Barristers, Trainees or newly qualified Solicitors / recently called Barristers (up to 5 years PQE/BPTC) then consider the benefits that the NJLD's educational, professional, social and sporting networks can offer them.  For further information please see the NJLD Webpage https://www.nottslawsoc.org/about-njld
