NJLD News April

Hello all

Spring is here and the NJLD has more educational, networking and social events coming up!

Cocktail Masterclass at the Alchemist

The Cocktail Masterclass was a big hit being a well attended social event with plenty of food and cocktails being in a surplus. For the masterclass our members made a ‘bubble bath’ cocktail with a never ending stream of bubbles even after 30 minutes of making the cocktail.

To end the evening the staff at the Alchemist treated our eyes and taste buds to a cocktail called the caramelised rum punch.

The hospitality provided by the staff was second to none and we would like to thank the attendees for making the event the success it was.

Hammond Cup

Entry is now closed to this academic competition, which provides competitors with an opportunity to practice and display their advocacy skills in a realistic court room setting, with invaluable feedback from experienced practitioners and professional judges.
Round 1 of the 51st annual Hammond Cup took place at 18:00 on Thursday 16th March 2017 at the Nottingham Law School, Chaucer Building, Goldsmith Street,
Nottingham NG1 5LP. Candidates had the choice of presenting a ten minute criminal plea in mitigation or civil interim application. The judges were looking for
candidates to show clarity of expression, thoroughness and, of course, persuasiveness.

Callum Church, Alexis Mercer, Sarah Murray and Frank Sheehan will participate in the final on 11th April 2019. A panel of judges will score the candidates and decide on the winner of the Hammond Cup 2019. Prizes will be distributed at the Law Society AGM on Tuesday 30th April 2019.

  • 1st prize £250 and an engraved trophy,
  • 2nd prize £150,
  • 3rd prize £100 and
  • 4th prize £50.
