September is nearly over and the summer a distant memory – so what’s changed?

Some will have noticed a name change on emails, yes, the wedding finally happened, and this is the first message from the newly married Michelle Foster.

The hottest weekend on the UK calendar arrived on Friday 16th July, the sun was shining, and our friends and family were gathered to witness our wedding at the beautiful Washingborough Hall, Lincoln.

Here are a few pictures of the great occasion…

The first dance...

Honeymoon period over and work begins on the social calendar for the Society.

The summer began with three Cricket matches, the first on the 22nd of July against the Old Nottinghamians’ Society, only a few covid drop-outs on this game.  The Old Nottinghamians’ put up a good fight to keep the Wheelhouse Cup – the full match report can be read here.

The second cricket match was an in-house game, the Radford Cup, the Nottinghamshire Law Society Barristers versus the Nottinghamshire Law Society Solicitors.  In a game of 15 overs, there was still some competitive bowling and catching by both teams.  Congratulations to the NLS Barristers for what was a narrow win against the Solicitors.

The final cricket game was the battle of the A52 against Derby & District Law Society on Thursday 19th August. August 2019 was the last time the trophy was challenged, and it was up to Nottinghamshire Law Society to win it back this year and they did!

Thank you to Kassra Powles, Luc Chignell and Naomi De Silva for organising the games, also thank you to Vikky Lai from Nelsons Solicitors who was one of the female participants in all three matches.  Vikky has written a blog about her cricketing experiences as part of the NLS teams – read it here!

Clay pigeon shooting was the next outdoor social event held at Cockett Farm, Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire.  Members from Rotheras, Browne Jacobson, BRM Solicitors and Nelsons Solicitors were split into two groups and competitively shot 25 clays under the great tuition of the instructors Ian and Paul at the shooting ground.  To see the scores and gallery pictures, click here.

Next month we will be looking at Mental Health and have a unique panel of guests joining us for the webinar discussion on Wednesday 12th October, 1pm-2pm - Is your Mental Health ready to leave home?  The panel will discuss how we begin to engage stepping out of our homes and head back into the office.

So, what’s happening next…

We have an array of events coming up for you this season beginning with the Nottingham Legal Walk on Thursday 23rd September. Then we have…

And then we look at Christmas events….

And to close the year, we have our annual Christmas Drinks evening on Tuesday 14th December, this year at the Cosy Club with a little bit of Michael Bublé Christmas magic to help us round off the year!

It’s been absolutely brilliant putting the buzz back into the NLS social calendar, I hope you will join us at one of the many events between now and Christmas!

And finally......

The other change you may have noticed is my new job title, Head Of Operations.  The new role reflects the way the job has evolved over the last few years and the desire to present a more businesslike face to our external partners.  Seeking sponsorship from corporate bodies, while sending the Administrator to negotiate, simply didn't give them the impression that we were serious.  It also reflects the ever increasing focus on marketing and event management.  This change, together with our new premises is all part of the Society's plan to drive the society forward and further embed us as one of the most active regional Law Societies in the country.

Best wishes,

Michelle Foster
