Edition: March 2019

2019 is off with a bang, with the NJLD already having hosted its first well attended, successful event!

New Year Drinks

Lots of our members attended the New Year Drinks event at Roxy’s Ball Room on 7th February, benefiting from several drinks. The attendees had the opportunity to play beer pong, pool and table tennis.

This event was completely free to our members and paid for by the NJLD. This was our way of saying thank you to our members for their continued support and dedication to the NJLD.

Thank you to our Events and Marketing Secretaries for all of their hard work in making this event one to remember. Also, thank you to all members that attended.

Below are a few photos from the night!

Bygott Biggs' NQ Talk

Our first NQ and Paralegal Talk of the year took place at Baresca on Thursday 27th February. This informative talk was hosted by David Mayfeld, Richard Betts and Dominic Gooch of Bygott Biggs. The event was well attended and consisted of a concise informative talk on options for paralegals, trainees and newly qualifed solicitors and was followed by some tapas and a generous bar tab. We would like to express a big thanks to David, Richard and Dominic for another great and useful night!

Hammond Cup

This academic competition is open to paralegals, trainee solicitors and pupil barristers. It provides competitors with an opportunity to practice and display their advocacy skills in a realistic Courtroom setting, with invaluable feedback from experienced practitioners and professional judges.

In round one of the 51st annual Hammond Cup will be held on 21st March 2019. The candidates will have the choice of presenting a ten minute criminal plea in mitigation or civil interim application. The judges will be looking for candidates to show clarity of expression, thoroughness and, of course, persuasiveness.

The four successful candidates will be invited to participate in the final on 11th April 2019.

  • 1st prize £250 and an engraved trophy,
  • 2nd prize £150,
