A new door opens for the Society...

September raced past and we are hurtling into October with more restrictions facing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire due to Covid-19.

The Society has been a hive of activity in many areas including the provision of informative online webinars from several key-note speakers and moving offices.

Firstly, let us talk about the new offices…

On Friday 16th October, the Nottinghamshire Law Society, says goodbye to the Hub, the home for the past 10 years and walks through the front door of 11 Clarendon Street, Nottingham NG1 5HR.

This is the next step in the Society’s history, and we can guarantee that despite Covid-19, the Society is still active and creating more historical moments but this time with 21st century technology.

We are excited about the move but, like most of us that endure home moves, we know that there is a lot of hard work ahead, establishing our new home, unpacking boxes and getting our IT provision perfect.

Technology is key to the Society delivering its courses and events to the membership. We are undeterred by the virus and have been surfing the internet waves with Zoom webinars on risk supervision, conveyancing, personal injury and SRA accounts rules to mention a few.

The Risk Supervision in Law Firms was in conjunction with The Law Society and Pearl Moses (Head of Risk & Compliance).  The webinar was viewed by over 60 delegates, from various areas of the UK including Bristol and Glasgow.

Covid-19 has certainly opened the doors for a wider legal community joining webinars from across the UK, with no train or travel involved, you can tune in from your study or dining room!

We will also be holding the annual negotiation competition – The President’s Cup.  This competition always brings in a wealth of entries from our junior lawyers and is one of the highlights of the year.

This year, we will be hosting the competition via Zoom, the closing date for entries is Friday 13th November, 4pm.  For full details of the competition visit:   President’s Cup Competition 2020

Over the next few weeks, we will be releasing promotional videos from the 2019 contenders, Jack Stuart (winner) and Elinor Watts (2nd prize) - their words of encouragement are great #getinvolved.

This month we have focussed on Mental Health Awareness Day and during October we have been running a series of Burn Bright master-classes with Donna Smith, which have been very well attended.

The bulletin this month has several articles from LawCare and one called Burn Bright -Not Out!

Check these out for a good read and relevant links and reading material.

In the meantime, stay safe, enjoy the autumnal colours of October and we look forward to seeing you virtually in November.

Best wishes,

Michelle Taylor
