Nottinghamshire Law Society President, Philip Turton, opened the John Pearce Charity Quiz on Thursday 11 February, live from the Zoom Bar.   The competition, which has been running for over 25 years, was well represented by the Nottinghamshire legal profession with a total of 34 teams participating and a 130 players Zooming in from various locations across the county.  There were some interesting team names this year too, from 'I'm not a Cat' to 'I think you're on mute' and even an appearance from 'Jackie Weaver'!

John Pearce himself, competed in a team of Past Presidents of Nottinghamshire Law Society.

There were five rounds of questions, carefully created by the Old Nottinghamians' Society, quiz champions of 2020.  Philip Turton, a former President of the Old Nottinghamians' Society donned the black tie and acted as Quiz Master, and supporting him was technology guru Andy Murdy whose mastery of Zoom and breakout rooms was outstanding.  We were also joined by Jane & Sarah from the Society as markers!

The rounds included Nottingham landmarks, TV themes and artwork concluding with a complex round of questions to hopefully challenge the teams and spread the field somewhat!

The Nottinghamshire based Agnes Mellers Charity, which celebrated its centenary in 2017,  was nominated by the Old Nottinghamians' Society as this year's charity. The charity's aims include advancing education, providing recreation and relieving poverty for boys and girls under the age of 18 in the City of Nottingham.  The evening raised £675.00 for the charity.  The winners of this year's quiz select the charity we will support in 2022.

Throughout the rounds, the challenge for top spot was hotly contended but in the end, four teams charged ahead with the Nottingham Law School -The Academy team, winning with 134 points.  In second place were the Nottingham Law School - The Advisers team, followed by joint third position of the Quizzee Rascals (Shakespeare Martineau) and Blended Academics from the University of Nottingham School of Law.

This year the Old Nottinghamians' Society donated a new trophy for the competition, which displays all the previous winners from the beginning of the competition in 1995.
